Air Conditioning Repair
Your auto AC must be properly maintained to function correctly and keep the car or truck cool on summer days. Surprisingly the A/C system is also key in helping to defrost your windshield on those cold, damp winter days as well. The A/C system dehumidifies the air coming from the defrost system helping to quickly clear the windows. If your car or truck’s air conditioning seems unable to cool the vehicle, call us for a full system performance check. Our full system test will find any leaks, and recharge the system for full functionality.
Air Filter
Your car or light truck’s air filter is critical in keeping unwanted, engine damaging dirt and debris out of your engine. What you may not know, is that a dirty, plugged air filter can cause big problems with power and fuel efficiency. Your air filter should be checked at least every 12 months or 12,000 miles (19,000 kilometers). At Jackman Tire, we check it at every oil change and recommend when replacement is necessary.
Alignments
A vehicle alignment sets the car or truck’s suspension to manufacturer’s specs by adjusting components to align the wheels with each other and the road surface. Regular alignments are needed to square the wheels and axles with each other so that they are moving in the same direction. Vehicle manufacturers designate standard angles for the alignment (in degrees) which provide better handling and performance while maximizing tire tread life. Jackman Tire offers state of the art alignment equipment.
Alternator Replacement
The battery starts your vehicle initially, but once your car is running, the alternator is the part that runs all the other electric systems on your car. This includes headlights, heating/air conditioning, and your car audio. The alternator keeps the battery charged so it is ready to start the vehicle after it has been shut off. If the alternator fails, the battery’s reserve power will quickly run out causing your car to die or fail to start. Broken pullies, a loose belt, or corroded wiring can cause the charging system to misfunction or fail. If you suspect a problem with your starting or charging system, have Jackman Tire test and replace it today.
Batteries
Your battery supplies the electronic charge to start your car when it is not running. It is also a reserve capacitor to protect sensitive electronics on your car from voltage spikes from the alternator. A bad battery can not only fail to start your car, but in extreme times, it can cause your car to die on the road. Extreme heat or freezing cold temperatures can also cause a weak battery to fail. Performance tests on your battery can tell you its levels. If the results indicate your battery is in need of replacement, Jackman Tire can get you recommendations.
Belts & Hoses
Your vehicle steering system, cooling system, air conditioning system and charging system are served by multiple belts and hoses. Hoses eventually become cracked and dry, causing them to squeal or break. Radiator and heater hoses can deteriorate and crack or become porous leading to leakage and problems like overheating. A broken belt can lead to loss of power steering, or alternator failure to charge, leaving you stranded on the road. A belt or hose seldom lasts over 5 years so annual checks are highly recommended. Jackman Tire can inspect your belts and hoses and tell you when they are in need of replacement.
Brake Repair
Your brake system transmits the force you apply to the brake pedal, down hydraulic lines to the brake calipers and wheel cylinders on the wheels. This force creates friction between the brake pads or shoes and the brake rotors or drums. This friction creates the stopping force needed to stop your car.
If you’re experiencing a squealing or grinding noise, a vibrating brake pedal, abnormal pedal travel (pressing farther than usual), or a brake light indicator, call us to have your brakes checked as soon as possible. Jackman Tire can quickly and professionally solve your problem and get you back on the road safely.
Cooling System Repair
Your car’s cooling system maintains operating temperature (around 190 degrees) while preventing it from running too hot or too cold. Antifreeze absorbs heat from the engine and is cooled in the radiator. The water pump circulates coolant through the hoses from the engine to the radiator. The thermostat regulates coolant from the engine to the radiator to maintain a proper operating temperature. These components work together to maximize performance and fuel economy. I the engine is running too hot or too cold, you are risking engine damage. If you have concerns about the proper operation of your cooling system, have it inspected and serviced today at Jackman Tire.
Diesel Engine Maintenance & Repair
Diesel engines are generally more reliable and fuel efficient than gas engines, but they do require specialized maintenance to keep them at max power. Glow plugs, fuel pumps, fuel injectors, and turbochargers may need cleaned, adjusted or repaired to maintain proper operation. Regular maintenance on engine oil and filters, fuel filter, and the water separator are also critical in keeping your diesel engine from running too hot or cold. We have the tools, equipment, and expertise necessary to keep your diesel car or light truck running its best.
Differential Repair
Modern cars and light trucks have a differential that transfers engine power to the wheels and adjusts to the difference in the wheel speed. The differential’s main function is to allow the wheels to turn at different speeds while steering. All-wheel drive vehicles need a differential between each set of wheels as well as a differential between the front and back wheels because the front wheels travel farther through a turn than the rear wheels. The differential can suffer wear and tear throughout a vehicle’s life. Noise or drips are a signal the differential needs serviced. This can be a sign of worn gears and/or bearings. Jackman Tire can quickly diagnose and correct these types of issues.
Engine Repair and Diagnostics
The check engine light can signal a variety of issues. If you see a check oil/oil level low, oil pressure low, and check engine are the most important. However, if any dash lights continue to stay on after you start the engine, call us to schedule a diagnostics service. When light switches stay on in the dash it is the first sign of engine problems. We can run a complete engine diagnostics test and take care of your engine repairs.
Flat Repair
A flat tire is inconvenient. There are many reasons tires lose air including punctures, a leaky valve stem, a corroded rim, or a cracked wheel. If you experience a low or flat tire, come to a stop safely as soon as you can. Look for flat or level ground if possible. Driving for even a very short distance on a flat will damage the tire and possibly even the wheel. If you are stranded, turn on your flashers and/or raise your hood. Once you are safely parked, you can change to your spare or call for roadside assistance. Bring us the flat tire for repair or replacement and we will get you on the road again.
Fluid Inspection
It is important to check your fluid levels regularly to keep your vehicle running smoothly. Coolant, engine oil, brake fluid, transmission fluid, power steering fluid, and windshield washer fluid all have an important function. Checking the fluid levels and condition regularly is the easiest way to safeguard against breakdown, mechanical damage, and even accidents. By inspecting all the fluids, we can try to catch a problem quickly before it becomes a bigger repair.
Four Wheel Drive System
Many cars and light trucks today feature all wheel drive or four wheel drive. Each manufacturer has a slightly different system for providing power to all four wheels. They have one thing in common, some sort of differential or transfer case to get the power from left to right and front to rear. Symptoms of four wheel drive failure to look for include: lighted dash indicators, failure to lock the front and rear wheels together, shaking and vibration or grinding noises when engaged. If you think you have a problem with your all wheel or four wheel drive system, schedule an appointment to accurately diagnose and repair the problem.
Lift Kits
Lifting your truck or jeep a few inches can look great and improve performance and power. A lift improves flexibility and function on both the highway and while driving through mud, sand and water. A suspension lift kit raises clearance allowing for off road driving and safer, more reliable access to recreational hills and valleys. Lift kits make room for larger wheels and tires. Come see the lift kit experts at Jackman Tire today!
Muffler / Exhaust System Repair
Your vehicle exhaust system funnels the hazardous smoke from burning fuel from the engine, filters out pollutants, and quiets it before expelling it out the back. The exhaust manifolds, catalytic converters, flexible sections, center pipes, exhaust resonators and mufflers are all important components of the system. They work together to reduce vibration and noise, remove heat, and eliminate harmful emissions from the engine. If your vehicle shows an emissions warning light, is unusually loud, or has reduced power your exhaust system needs inspection. Jackman Tire can quickly identify the problem and present you with solutions.
Nitrogen
Filling tires with nitrogen instead of air can reduce pressure loss, reduce corrosion and prevent liner rubber deterioration by oxidation. This makes the tires run cooler, which can increase the tread life, the fuel mileage and may prevent uneven tire wear. Tire industry experts say oxidative aging is a top contributor to decreased tire life. Oxidative aging happens as oxygen leaks out from the pressurized air cavity of the tire. Tires that are inflated with nitrogen have a significant reduction in tire failure. Stop by Jackman Tire to discuss the many benefits of using Nitrogen in your tires.
Oil Changes
Oil absorbs heat from the engine and lubricates the moving components. Changing your vehicle’s oil to manufacturer’s specs is one of the most important things you can do to ensure long term performance. As you drive, the oil pump circulates oil through the filter and to the engine. The oil filter cleans dirt and deposits out of the oil, protecting the engine. Over time, the oil filter gets full of this debris and will no longer be able to keep the oil clean. Most manufacturers recommend changing the oil between 3,000 and 5,000 miles to for maximum performance over the life of the engine.
Preventive Maintenance
Regular preventive maintenance is likely the single most important thing you can do to keep your car running safely and efficiently. Fluids, spark plugs, brake pads and rotors all have a service life and need to be inspected and replaced. Routine services like oil changes, tire pressure checks, and other scheduled inspections are the best way to keep your car running properly and catch problems before they become serious. Check your owner’s manual for detailed information on how often to inspect or replace things such as oil and filter, transmission fluid, brake fluid, coolant, power steering fluid, fuel, air and cabin filters, drive or timing belts, and more.
Steering and Suspension Repair
Steering and suspension are the fundamental connection between your tires and the road. They are the components that provide steering, stability, proper handling, and comfort. They are also key to safety and should be inspected annually or if you notice excessive noise, vibration or bouncing, uneven tire wear, or have the steering wheel obviously pulling left or right. If you need your suspension checked, let the qualified technicians at Jackman Tire quickly identify any problems you may have.
Tire Balancing
Proper balance is key to getting the most wear out of your tires. Out of balance tires will wear unevenly and more quickly possibly causing noise, vibration and a shaking sensation in the seat or steering wheel. These symptoms may get worse or better as you go faster or slower. As the tires wear, it is normal for them to need rebalanced. The usual recommendations are to balance every 15,000 miles to ensure maximum tire life and smooth, quiet operation. The professionals at Jackman Tire can quickly and affordably care for all of your tire needs.
Tire Installation
Today’s tires are more than just rubber and oil, they are made up of several layers of materials, each manufacturer with a different combination. Today’s tires last longer on average and are less prone to unexpected blowouts than older tires. Each brand has layers for performance and durability, but first of all their function is to maintain contact with the road! When choosing tires, consider the functions of your vehicle and your expectations. A vehicle towing heavy weight will need a high load rated tire. A vehicle for commutes is different than one for long road trips. If you expect to be driving in heavy rain or snow, you need tires with a better traction rating. Your tires need to be changed at the very least every 6 years. At Jackman Tire we have professionally trained staff to recommend the best tires for your vehicle and schedule the install too.
Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
Low tire pressure is not only a safety issue, but it will also drastically shorten the life of a tire. Your tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), is designed to monitor the air pressure in the tires using real time pressure information. You will be alerted if the tire pressure drops to an unsafe level, usually even indicating which tire is low. Tire pressure sensors are powered by a non serviceable battery and will eventually fail when the battery dies. The average lifespan of a tire pressure sensor is 7 to 9 years. When new tires are installed, the sensors must also be serviced or replaced.
Tire Rotation
Tires wear at all times, but at different rates depending on your vehicle, driving surface, road conditions and steering. The front tires usually show the most wear. Rotating your tires regularly can even out the wear on the tires, reduce fuel use, ensure proper handling, and extend the life of your tires. Tires should be rotated every 6,000 to 8,000 miles depending on the vehicle. Make an appointment for tire rotation and get on the schedule quarterly or every six months.
Tire Storage
Whether you’re storing your snow tires in the summer, or the other way around we will lock them up out of your way until you need them. We have climate controlled secure facilities for tires, or tires with wheels. Bring them in, or leave them with us when you have the other set installed.
Tire Swap
We always recommend rotating your tires regularly to promote even treadwear. Seasonal changes can require tire swap service in addition to rotation. Call us to remove your current tires and replace them with a different set of tires from your inventory. Swapping studded snow tires is required by a certain date, and helps extend their longevity and function. Our technicians can recommend the best schedule based on your driving habits and tire manufacturer recommendations. Keep an extra set of tires available to swap between for maximum mileage. Schedule your appointment today to swap tires and keep your vehicle handling great!
Transmission Service
Today’s transmissions are more complex than ever before. They are computerized and shift electronically which means smoother shifting, more reliability and better fuel economy. They are sophisticated and are fully integrated into the engine performance system. Advances in transmission technology have made properly diagnosing and servicing them more important than ever. We check the entire powertrain system to make sure the proper component is isolated and repaired.
Because maintenance schedules for transmission fluids have been extended, it is very important to follow manufacturer’s guidelines to avoid costly repairs. We have OEM quality diagnostics, along with properly trained, experienced technicians, that are qualified to get the job done right.
Tune Up
Thirty years ago engines only required consistent maintenance on a few basic components. Spark plugs, distributor points and condensers, valve adjustments, timing adjustments, and carburetor adjustments were needed on an annual basis. This annual check became known as the “tune up.”
What used to be annually has now increased to 60,000 or even 90,000 mile increments. Today a “tune up” refers to diagnosing any combination of symptoms that cause a car to run poorly. Advances in technology, and the improved efficiency have increased the time between basic engine maintenance services drastically. While spark plugs, filters and fluids still need to be replaced at regular intervals to keep your car running problem free, most other components are now likely to last the life of the car. If your car is running poorly or has a warning indicator on the dash, schedule a tune up today.
Vehicle Inspection
Visual Inspections during annual maintenance are your first line of defense in finding problems early and have the potential to save you hundreds, or even thousands on repairs. If you are planning a long trip, are going to buy a vehicle, sell a vehicle, or are concerned about the road worthiness of your vehicle, schedule an inspection today.
Wheel Alignments
Aligning the wheels on a car involves adjustments so they are true to the center line of the vehicle and roll straight. Misaligned vehicles will show rapid, uneven tire wear and may be noisy or bumpy while driving as various speeds. Other signs are a crooked steering wheel, pulling to the left or right, or just wandering down the road without tracking straight. Your tires are a big investment and your most important factor in traction and braking ability. Protect them by keeping your vehicle properly aligned.
Windshield Wiper Blades
Good wiper blades are critical for safely driving in rain and snow. Between the dry heat of summer and the freezing cold of winter, most wiper blades will need to be replaced at least yearly to maintain proper wiper operation. Over time, the edges will harden and crack, or rip and tear, causing failure at the most crucial times. Stop by today for quality, budget friendly wiper blade replacement.
